How Can I Get Involved?

There's plenty of ways to get involved in Lead On and, as you'll find out from reading the stories section on the website, plenty of great opportunities!

The Lead On program exists for your benefit - you can decide what you want out of it and choose your level of involvement. You might choose to participate in an existing project, or get together with your friend and put forward a project idea to your own community.

Young people play an important part in the decision-making of each Lead On project and opportunity including what projects will be run, and how they will be delivered. This process ensures that Lead On remains relevant, important and valuable to everyone in the community.

Stories - What young people think about Lead On

The following comments are from Lead On participants.

"There is no doubt that my involvements in Lead On helped me to get the job I wanted.  I had all my Lead On involvements written in my resume. The fact that I was involved in a community organisation and was part of the Youth Advisory Board created a lot of interest in my application and interview."

“I really treasure my time at Lead On with fond memories – it gave me a kick start to life and taught me about life skills, people, business, community and most of all myself. If it wasn’t for Lead On I have no
doubt that I wouldn’t be where I am today, doing what I do.”

“From the different roles and responsibilities I had through my involvement in Lead On, my confidence in my skills, abilities and what I could achieve grew.”

“I have a greater belief in myself, and what others can achieve, if only given the chance.”

“Through Lead On I met people I wouldn’t usually meet, including young people from other schools and backgrounds as well as a range of professionals and community leaders, who I still have business relationships with to this day. It often put you out of your comfort zone, but in the long term it has proved to be valuable.”

Community Door Project

Loop project

When the rather radical idea of a newspaper supplement being written, designed and edited by young people through Lead On first surfaced back in 2000, it was greeted with a tremendous response from the community.

The decision making bodies will be varied, ranging from the local sporting organisation, festival committees to business and community committees and boards of management.

"I have lots more confidence now and have achieved a higher standard in the community."

"Lead On gave me the opportunity to be a valued member of the community with something to contribute."
